Gyproc, the market leader in plasterboard and plaster, with a plant in Kingscourt, Co. Cavan have been awarded the EN 16001 certification against the European standard for energy management. By achieving this certification, Gyproc has joined a group of fewer than 50 companies who have been awarded EN 16001.
EN 16001, heavily based on the Irish standard IS 393, provides organisations who wish to manage and reduce their energy usage with a best practice framework to achieve this.
When presented with the certificate, which took place in the Technical Academy, Kingscourt, Co. Cavan, Brian Dolan, MD of Gyproc, said “We are very pleased to have achieved this prestigious accolade. It is our policy to maintain the highest standards in energy management and environmental responsibility. We are committed to the efficient use of resources at the site where currently 90 per cent of all waste and 50 per cent of all water is recycled”.
The EN 16001 was awarded by Certification Europe which also carried out the first EN 16001 certification globally and has been leading the way in energy management.
John Ryan, Commercial Director with Certification Europe, pointed out “Operating to EN 16001 will provide Gyproc with a wide range of benefits. In addition to cost savings, observance of EN 16001 will reduce greenhouse gas emissions, carbon footprint and increase energy awareness among staff leading to greater efficiencies and informed decision making processes”.
Certification to EN 16001 is valid for three years and regular surveillance audits will be carried out at the Gyproc site, showing a true to a commitment to ongoing energy management and continuous improvement.
